Training requirements lack throughout our system when it comes to domestic violence. As concerned citizens, we believe it is imperative to require all officials involved in domestic violence cases to have proper, in-depth training and certification. Domestic violence is a serious issue that affects millions of people every year, and it is crucial that those who are responsible for handling these cases are properly trained and equipped to do so.

Lives depend on it.

The Facts

According to the National Coalition Against Domestic Violence, one in three women and one in four men have experienced some form of physical violence by an intimate partner. Additionally, domestic violence accounts for 15% of all violent crime in the United States. These statistics highlight the urgent need for officials involved in domestic violence cases to receive proper training.

Currently, there is no national standard for training officials who handle domestic violence cases. This means that some officials may not be adequately prepared or equipped to handle these complex situations. By requiring all officials involved in domestic violence cases to undergo comprehensive training and certification, we can ensure that they have the knowledge and skills necessary to provide victims with the support they need.

The Proposal

We propose that this training should cover topics such as identifying signs of abuse, understanding the psychological effects of abuse on victims, providing appropriate resources and referrals for victims, and understanding how cultural factors may impact a victim’s experience.

Your Signature Matters

By signing this petition, you are joining us in calling on lawmakers at all levels of government to take action on this important issue. We urge them to implement policies requiring all officials involved in domestic violence cases – including law enforcement officers, judges, prosecutors, social workers, teachers, counselors -to undergo comprehensive training and certification.
